Chiropractic care has an excellent safety record in Australia, and is considered a low-risk form of alternative healthcare. Australian Chiropractors are regulated by AHPRA and must adhere to specific codes of conduct. As with any healthcare intervention, the potential for adverse events may exist, however we perform extensive testing to minimize the risk of any adverse event taking place under our care.
At Princess Street Chiropractic we use a wide range of evidence-based techniques including joint mobilisations and manipulations, low force techniques (activator, pelvic blocks), soft tissue therapy, dry needling, exercise rehabilitation, and lifestyle advice. We will always refer out if we think there is another practitioner that is better suited to the patient or condition.
In short, no! There is no age limit on chiropractic and more and more people are consulting and referring to chiropractors, especially in their early or later years. In order to deliver the safest, most effective and highest quality care possible, chiropractic techniques are modified appropriately for each person at every age and stage of life.
While brief discomfort after an adjustment can occur, it is rare and most people find having an adjustment very relaxing. With some adjustments you may sometimes feel or hear a popping sound from the spinal joints. This is simply caused by a change in pressure in the joint, as spinal movement is improved.
This is entirely up to you, as you get to choose how long you receive Chiropractic care.
Some people choose to cease having care once their initial symptoms have improved.
However, much like exercising and eating well, some people may choose to have a regular check-up to look after their health proactively rather than waiting for symptoms to return.
